The Art of Connection: How Community Shapes Our Retreat Centers
From the Sacred Valley of Peru to the heart of Bali, our journey of creating sacred spaces for connection has grown from our first center, Munay Sonqo, to our newest home, Bumi Cinta in Bali.
Over the years, we've learned to cultivate what works to maintain a harmonious flow of community and connection among our team, guests, and hosts. Through this exploration, we've deepened our roots into nurturing each other as family, carrying this nourishment into every interaction with those who walk through our doors.
When we opened Bumi Cinta, we knew this foundation of connection would be our starting point. Each day, our team carries this intention of community and family with us. We continuously explore how we can help our guests and hosts feel most nourished and comfortable in their experience with us here.
This value of community and connection is nothing new. In fact, one of the longest-running studies in history, the Harvard Study, has shown us that good relationships are what keep us happier and healthier, more than anything else in life. The study reveals that it's not wealth, fame, or hard work that leads to the most fulfilling life, but rather the quality of our connections with others.
This fundamental human need for belonging aligns perfectly with what Abraham Maslow identified in his hierarchy of needs. After our basic physiological and safety needs are met, we seek love and belonging — that sense of connection that makes us feel nurtured and fulfilled.
At Bumi Cinta, we see this play out daily in the small moments: the shared smiles in the dining room, the spontaneous conversations in our gardens, and the way our staff naturally create a space where guests feel held and supported. We've noticed that when people feel truly seen and accepted within our community, something magical happens — they begin to open up, share, and transform.
This is why we put such emphasis on creating opportunities for genuine connection at our center. Whether it's through our family-style meals, our community gathering spaces, or the way we structure our activities, everything is designed to foster that sense of belonging that we humans so deeply crave.
Our experience has shown us that this approach transcends cultural boundaries. Whether in the Sacred Valley of Peru or here in the heart of Bali, people respond to authentic human connection in remarkably similar ways. It's a universal language that speaks to something deep within all of us, something that becomes increasingly precious in our fast-paced, digitally connected but often personally disconnected world.
